My Big Birthday Boy

I can’t believe my little BBC turned seven yesterday. Sniff, sniff. We picked him up from school at lunch and went to his favorite restaurant. If we ever ask him what he wants for lunch or dinner we know he is going to respond, “LARRY’S PIZZA!”

If ever you find yourself in central Arkansas, do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch or dinner at Larry’s Pizza. They have a fun array of specialty pizza’s like BBC’s favorite, chicken honey mustard. Their traditional and dessert pizzas are very tasty, too.

This is the traditional birthday bag. He received a gift in this bag on hist first birthday. He has gotten a gift in the bag every year since. It started out as a joke and now we just continue the tradition.

BBC loves movies and they are a great way to bribe, er, I mean motivate him to have good behavior and grades at school. He added Despicable Me to his movie library this year.

DH picked out the birthday gifts this year. As you can see BBC is super excited to receive this remote control Rocket Warthog. I had no idea what it was. He is explaining to me in this picture. All I hear is wah wah wah, wah wah. All that really matters in that joy on his little face!

When we got home we started baking his cake together. He requested another pirate ship cake but after the last fiasco, I talked him into experimenting with a rocket cake. I made a Barbie cake in a Pampered Chef batter bowl for my niece a few years back. Someone told me I could do something similar to make a rocket.

Here’s how our rocket cake turned out. It is definitely more successful than the pirate ship! Do you see that ornery grin on his face? It took him forever to make his wish and blow out the candles.

After we had cake, we packed him up to go out of town with his grandparent’s for the weekend. I love low-key birthdays. We try to have a big party every few years but I think the memories we create on the low-key years are the best.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you for stopping my my blog!

Larry’s Pizza choices remind me of pizza options in South Africa…go figure!

I spent some time in Arkansas with friends from there when I was going to college in Oklahoma. The people were SUPER friendly.

AND…I love the cake!! So creative! I am always amazed at what others can doing being that “crafty” things are not my primary gifting!

Looking forward to sharing my journey with you…

Such a cute cake! Loved it! I may have to try that one out sometime for Grayson. The cake is baked in PC’s Classic Batter Bowl, right? But,how do you make the wings?

Happy 7th Birthday to your son. It looks like he had a fabulous celebration at Larry’s. Larry’s looks so good! I love the tradition of using the same bag for a gift each year. I hope you can do that until he is an old man. The rocket cake turned out great. It’s almost too cute to cut!

C, that cake turned out amazingly!!! I am so impressed. :) I can’t believe he’s 7 either!!! Would you recommend Despicable Me for a 5 and 3 year old? My 3 year old will sit through Disney-length princess movies, but I didn’t know if the plot is appropriate for littler kids. My oldest laughs at the commercials, so I was curious. I’ve heard good things about it!

Thank you so much for joining my party, chickie! :)

    Thanks, y’all!

Shelley – I made one cake in the classic batter bowl and another in a round pan. It’s 8 or 9 inches, I can’t remember.

I leveled off both cakes and sat the batter bowl cake upside down on the edge of the round to give the rocket more height. Then I trimmed around and used portions of the leftovers to make the wings. I made a quick icing (water, powdered sugar, shortening and almond/clear vanilla extract) to glue it together and ice it. We finished it off with m&m’s.

It was pretty simple if you aren’t trying to impress anyone other than your boy AND especially if he is helping. hahaha
