Show Us Where You Live Friday – Dining Room

It’s Friday so that means we are going on home tours again! Today we’ll be looking at dining rooms. I am a little embarrassed to show you my dining room but also excited to just keep it real for you! So here we go…
This is the view as you walk into my home and turn right. This room is actually in the middle of a project so the walls are mostly bare. The only reason you see that one print over in the corner is because DH was helping me clean last weekend and decided to give a try at decorating. There was already a nail there so he put the picture to get it out of the way.
I love the hutch. I used to stock it full of my boring white china and keep all these beautiful products in storage but decided it would be better to put away the china and display these beautiful pieces. I like storage to be beautiful and functional. These are the items I use for entertaining and it is so much nicer to grab them out of here instead of storage. And I love the pop of color it adds to the room!

This is one of two floor to ceiling windows in the room. This room is opposite the living room and looks out over the front yard. These windows are bare for now but will soon have window treatments!

We just finished the family room project and this room is next on the big project agenda. I started adding this wall design a few months back but the project stalled when DH and I had design conflicts. These are put on with wall mud and are a raised design. Don’t you think they will be gorgeous when completed?

DH wants this room painted orange and I’m not sure if I can go there. I want it painted blue as that is my new addiction. I am trying to compromise with orange wall paint and silk draperies with orange and blue to tie it all together. But I am just not convinced we are going to be able to go there.
I would love your opinion – what do you think about an orange dining room? The other colors downstairs are chocolate brown (foyer), a golden wheat color (living room and den) and green (kitchen).

I think a brownish orange would work on may two of the four walls. Come by my blog and check out my wall color. I call it Paprika. The paint I originally bought was too ORANGE so I added some dark brown to it and it was exactly what I wanted.
    Good luck!

Love how you have your hutch decorated!

I think the orange would go GREAT with all of your other warm colors downstairs. That silk fabric with the blue is perfect!!!

I would have a hard time with orange as well. Hubby never gets involved with those decisions because he knows he would never win. Hope you all can reach a compromise! I would have to go with blue as well and if you ever sell blue would be more preferred. Orange may scare some buyers off. That may all be irrelevant. I love your design with the mud! I will have to research that! It looks like it will be beautiful no matter what color you all choose! Wonderful idea!

I like the orange/blue that you have going on in the fabric. I think it could work. Where did you get those designs that are raised? I love that.

i love the orange and blue drapes idea to tie the colors together! i think orange would be a really unique dining room color, and it sounds like it would go really well with all of your other room colors. but i must admit i am a blue lover, too, so i love the idea of a blue dining room…tough choice! thanks for sharing!

Don’t call it orange. Call it terra cotta. I think it will look great. It really isn’t going to seem orange if you go with a natural earth tone kind of shade.

Thanks for stopping by my DR! I hope you’ll come back to visit me again.

RE: the orange for your DR, I have to say I don’t think it will work great with your furniture. It will all blend in together too much & not enhance your dark cherry furniture at all. I think the blue would work much better, see if you can talk your hubby into that.

I absolutely love that raised stencil wall treatment that you’re thinking of doing. Very pretty!

The darker rusty oranges (paprika color) are my very favorite and I am using that color a lot in my own home; however, I have to say that I don’t think I would paint that color on the walls. I would definitely do the blue on the walls and use the “orange” as an accent. The blue will show off your warm furniture beautifully.

    Thanks for sharing !

I love the wall design and hear ya on being hesitant with the orange shades. I would try to beat out the husband with the blue, but if that doesn’t work, the orange/paprika/terra cotta would maybe be less abrasive if you put some wainscoting below the chair rail and just did the upper half of the wall in orange? It might look nice with a solid white to contrast.

Just a thought… let us know who wins!
