Another Day at The Old Mill

As a reward for BBC’s good behavior at school yesterday, I gave him the option of going to any park in the city. Happily he chose The Old Mill because it is equally rewarding for me, too!

I couldn’t post about the mill without a picture of the namesake. Look at how blue the sky is above the mill!

First order of business, stalk the ducks. BBC was bound and determined to catch one. He said, “Momma, I just HAVE to catch a duck.” Made me and a few other gals giggle. They kept asking me if he could swim. Thankfully he can but didn’t make any big splashes yesterday.

I finally lured him away from the poor ducks. He decided to climb the rocks. This reminds me of my childhood. We used to go to the spillway at Lake Fort Smith to climb rocks and play in the water. That spillway is now under water so I’m glad I can recreate that fun memory with BBC here at the mill.

Contemplating a jump… I’m glad he decided against and came back down the way he went up. Whew!

BBC, like his mom, rarely meets a stranger. We both love to make new connections and would, as they say, talk to the fence post if it would talk back. BBC and this boy played for a while as the grandmother and I chatted.

I sure hope BBC gets a happy clown report today so we can go again. It’s another gorgeous day in Central Arkansas! It is in the mid 70′s, sunny and a bit breezy – beautiful! Spring is on the way!

Are you enjoying some outdoor fun this week? Are you beginning to see signs that spring is on the way?

Looks like you two had a great time. Your lucky to have such a jewel nearby. The Old Mill looks like a pristine picture place.

I am afraid to think spring is really on the way here in Michigan…it has been in the fifties, but we have been picking Easter Eggs in the snow before…so I am excited- But tempered…

There’s an old mill just like that one that I’ve visited many times growing up that’s just north of Batesville. It was always such a fun place to visit. You really make me miss HOME a lot!

I have really found that bribery/rewards seems to work with my son. But that means that I have to be prepared to follow-through. So, instead of threatening to take something big away that I probably really wouldnt in the end, I have come up with creative rewards – usually for the whole week (but he is in 2nd grade – so may get the “week” concept). I also work full-time, so most of it is on the weekend.

A Saturday morning mom/son date to the library. Family trip to the movies. He picks the fast food. He picks the movie to rent. Etc. Things that don’t cost a ton (except the movies – we suffered through the Squeakwel for 2 straight weeks of good behavior).

We also have a dollar tree where everything is really a dollar, and they have these boy or girl “grab bags” that are paper sacks full of junk. They seriously are my kids favorite treat ever.
