Fall Foyer Table & Need Your Help

I don’t know how this happened, but I’m bored with my fall decorating. I haven’t been inspired much since doing the breakfast area a couple of weeks ago. I have bins of fall decor just sitting in the hallway begging to be put out.

Here’s what I did with a little table in my foyer this morning. I mostly like it but there is just a little something that is off. You may very well see these urns on the mantle in a few days.

Don’t you love that little Arkansas outline with the heart in the Northwest area? I grew up in that area and have a goal to get back there one of these days – hopefully sooner rather than later. My best friend bought me that picture. The caption at the bottom says “Home is Where The Heart Is” – isn’t that precious?

Anywho, this is a problem area for me. I change this area all the time because I’m still not satisfied. I have tried this wall a light color. I tried it a bright color. It is now dark as you can see and that sucks the life out of the area. I have not been happy with any of the results, really.

There is also a huge white vent and the ugly thermostat in this area. I bought this little accent table to try and keep that all camouflaged. I guess it kind of serves its purpose and is a friendly little greeting for guests as they walk in our home. Maybe the scale is off? Do I need a longer table for the area? Should it be rectangular instead?

HELP! Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Okay friend, here is some free decorating advice from a professional(lol) While the table is adorable I think a longer “sofa” type table would be better if you have room for 40-48″ or so. I would then lower the clock and center above the table. On the left side of the table I would then raise that urn up so the pumpkin hides the stat completely I do think it is cute as you have it but just trying to address your concerns
    Have a great day!

Not a pro at decorating – but a suggestion why not paint the vent cover same color as the wall…it would blend in and be less noticeable. As for the thermostat cover could it be painted also?

    Love the pumpkins on display!

I agree with the first commenter, a longer, thinner table would be more suited to the space. I have a sofa table in my entry area and it’s less intrusive.

I think the heater vent sticks out because of the color now, maybe you could paint it? I also agree a longer thinner table might be better idea.

I like the suggestion to change the table to a longer table, then in the white urn, add a tall arrangement and move the clock to the left to balance it out. You could then put the AR frame on an easel. But I really am better at decorating when I can see the surrounding area and how it all works together!

I have the same problem in my sunroom. I used a longer sofa table. It seems to help take the focus off of the vent. Good Luck! Carla

Thank you all for your suggestions – keep them coming! I appreciate the painting ideas – DH disapproves greatly of that idea. I am respecting his wishes.

Now – where can I get a CHEAP table to fit the bill?

I do like the idea of a “sofa” table there. I didn’t even notice the grate until you mentioned it–so having some sort of table there is helping. I love your vignette!!!!

I agree, a longer table, paint the grate and a taller arrangement from the white urn will draw the eye upwards away from your large vent. Looks great now but maybe just a few changes in position of most of the things you already have.

I think a longer table would work too! I have the same shape table (a little bigger though) in our foyer area and Casey is currently making me a long one wiht shelves for books and baskets…big enough for two lamps. Anyway, I love the pumpkins and urns though! Way cute! I always love your fall stuff! And what is this talk of moving!? :) Amy Simon

It looks adorable and welcoming. Just what you want. A longer thinner table would be nice, but might not be in the budget. Painting the vent is a wonderful inexpensive idea. I’d tweek the vignette itself by changing out the square candle holder. I think a softer shape would help.

I host a weekly meme called Seasonal Sundays where everyone shares their ideas of what the season means to them. I’d love to have you come and join us.

LONGER TABLE :) get a sofa table, go to a thrift store and paint one :) That is what I did in my house – I wish I could post a picture on here – hmmm – email me and I can send you a picture – greendoordesigns@gmail.com. It is the perfect size for that space. Then I like your Ark print, but I don’t think I would hang it, but instead put it on an easel – that or put a mat around it if you want to frame it – but it needs to be bigger and I wouldn’t put it on the wall by the clock. The clock is gorgeous and needs to be alone – IMO. Then I like the urns, but i don’t know if I like the pumpkins coming out of the urns, maybe just to the sides of them? I would have to play around with it, but first you need a bigger table and the picture off the wall to start with the base and then build from there

I love the wall color and agree that if you painted the cover it would be less noticeable. IKEA usually has great prices (if you are lucky enough to be near one).
