‘Tis the Season 2010

Friday night our church held its annual ‘Tis the Season ladies event. Each year I facilitate a class to share ideas for holiday decorating. I’m happy to report I survived my three presentations despite an injured knee and back and I was truly blessed to be able to do so. I’m still hobbling around today but praise the Lord I was able to enjoy the evening!
You will probably see some of these ideas implemented in my home decor this week, like this cloche vignette. I love that JOY card (even if a department store sent it to me). I just sat it up on a red plate, popped a cloche over it and added a couple of glass ornaments for interest. To top it off I hot glued a silver bow to the cloche. Simple and sweet.
This is my full display. Yes it is busy. I needed everything close at hand so I could travel around the room the least amount possible. The table is sectioned into three trends of the season, Modern Hues (fresh blues and greens), Natural Habitat (inspired from nature), and Easy Elegance (classic with a contemporary twist).
Natural Habitat is my sweet spot of home decor. A trend or not, it is the foundation of my decor. I shared ideas for a burlap table runner to bring in natural texture. Add greenery, a wonky bow, and a votive to a favorite platter to showcase the Holy Family.
Grab a red platter, add greenery, and tuck in a few Brilliant Glass Ornaments for a fun foyer table display. Add bows to each ornament (I didn’t have a chance to do this) to dress up the presentation. You might also add a small tag with a favorite verse to each ornament. As guests leave have them take one to remember their visit to your home!
This is the Modern Hues section. It’s hard to tell, but I added a few faux pine branches in my blue Santorini Urn and decorated with a few glass ornaments and glittered snowflakes from the branches. The textured green tablecloth adds interest and the pop of green needed for this vignette.

This is one of my favorite ideas. I tied a green ribbon from corner to corner on my Dress Me Up Platter. This provides the perfect place to tuck in my favorite holiday card, picture, scripture or whatever! I propped it up in a stand for an instant display.

I saw a Kissmas Topiary on the Martha Stewart show a few weeks ago and decided I should try one for myself. It was very rewarding to make – add one, eat one, add one, eat one. In all seriousness, I don’t know how they did it on the show. I broke toothpicks in half, pushed the sharp end into the kiss and the other end into the Styrofoam ball that I covered in foil. Then I stuck it into a small urn that I dressed up with a little silver paint, reindeer moss and a silver bow to finish it all off.
This is my Easy Elegance section. I will definitely be repeating the green ornaments and glass display somewhere in m home. My Bradford Lattice Lanterns provide the perfect gray backdrop for the jewel-toned ornaments.
Did you notice some of the ornaments were hanging inside the vases? This little trick was inspired by Shannon at Bless Our Nest. She has been known to hang ornaments from her glass cloche. I simply turned the glass cylinders upside down, added a little dab of hot glue to the ribbon on the ornament, and stuck it to the bottom of the cylinder. Simple and stunning!
This is a bonus idea. A year or so ago All You Magazine featured a glass container filled with jelly beans and bunny peeps. I reworked it with peppermints and snowman peeps. I think it’s adorable and will definitely show up in my home somewhere. To add to this vignette, I hot glued a few peppermints to glass votives. I added the candy canes for inspiration. The candy cane vase and candy cane easels I did for this event two years ago coordinate nicely with this as well!

I always have a blast pulling together ideas and sharing for this event. I hope something has inspired a little creativity in your home decor as well!
