Dishing It: Christmas Traditions

It’s once again time to Dish it with Amanda over at Serenity Now. This is a fun chance to share a little about yourself and learn about others. Amanda has introduced me to several new bloggy friends this way. One in particular, Frou Frou Britches, lives very near to me in real life!

Without further ado, here are a few Southern Fried Christmas traditions!

Do you have any specific traditions that your family looks forward to each Christmas? I have very magical memories from childhood of putting out cookies and milk for Santa on Christmas Eve and waking up to see what all he brought on Christmas morning. I am trying to create similar magical memories for BBC as well.

Is your tree real or fake? Real. I love that the shape is different every year. I love the wonderful smell. And I love not have to store it. Read all about our ugly tree this year.

Do you have any favorite ornaments? Y’all know it is hard for me to pick favorites! I love almost all of our ornaments and the special story or memory that goes along with them. Take this angel holding lights for example. My mom bought this angel for DH because our first Christmas together also yielded our first big fight. I had visions of a perfectly decorated house with perfect outdoor lights. DH didn’t want to hang lights outside. Let’s just say he ended up hanging them but he was no angel during the process! BTW, we don’t have lights on the outside of our house this year. Oh the irony!

What’s your favorite Christmas treat?

Each year I make homemade candy to take to our family gatherings. I usually make four different types of candy. Jeff’s Pappy hides the container of his favorite treats from the rest of the family and that totally cracks me up. The treat for me is being able to bless others and knowing how much they look forward to it each year. Which reminds me, I better get busy this year!

Best Christmas gift you ever received? When I was a teen (and a brat) I told my parents if they really loved me they would get me a trampoline for Christmas. My mom was always good at the open a wrapped box for a hint to the next wrapped box until you find the gift game. That particular year the trail ended in the backyard with a new trampoline (how they did that on Christmas Eve is still amazing to me). The note on the trampoline read, “If we really need to prove our love to you then here you go.” I started crying. Let’s just say the best gift wasn’t the trampoline…

Coolest crafty thing you made or home decor thing you tried this Christmas season? I’m not sure it if is cool, but I’m kind of partial to my burlap and bling front door.

Your favorite Christmas movie? I love Christmas Vacation. There. I said it. I watch it at least 5 times each year. I can just about recite the whole movie. So funny! Please don’t judge.

What’s the number one thing on your kid’s list this year? My son wanted a Santa Suit last year. Santa didn’t find out until the day before Christmas so he brought him a Santa snuggie. This year BBC told Santa he wants the rest of the suit. Ah ya ya…

If Santa could bring you one big surprise this year, what would you want it to be? A debt-free (excluding our mortgage) start to 2011.

OK – enough about me. What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?

I love how you used tuile(sp?) for both your door and your mantle. Your trampoline story is great. You’ll have to remember that when your son is in his teens! I hope that you enjoy this last week before Christmas.

Your entry looks amazing! National Lampoons Christmas is one of my husbands two favorite Christmas movies. The other is The Christmas story. Mmmmm, that chocolate looks good. One of Michael’s Aunts and her daughters used to make homemade chocolate to give out. Sadly now that her girls are grown and have moved out, she no longer carries on this tradition. Sigh.

I so agree with the debt free except the mortgage!

Your son looked so adorable in his snuggy! How funny that he still wants a Santa suit for Christmas!

    Enjoy your holiday season!

Okay, you have the cutest stocking ever. Pottery Barn? Love the picture of all the goodies…so funny about Pappy hiding his faves. Cute!! I think Christmas Vacation is hilarious!! Cousin Eddie is my favorite. :)
