Snowmageddon 2011

It’s official, Snowmageddon 2011 is on in Central Arkansas and other parts of the deep south. On Sunday I left Birmingham, AL bound for North Little Rock, AR. It was smooth sailing until about 20 miles from home then it turned into this mess.

It took me at least an hour to make those last few miles home. There were plenty of not-as-smart-as-they-could-be folks on the road. It was the perfect opportunity for me to practice the three P’s of safe driving in winter weather – Peace (or non panic), Patience, and Praying.

There were several cars piled up at the bottom of the hill to my home. I decided to turn around, park here (along with several other folks) and walk the rest of the way. I have never been so thankful to be safely home in all my life.

Here’s how the front yard looked yesterday morning.

Polar Bear Club, anyone?

Wouldn’t be a Southern Fried snow day without a little baking. That’s my boy tripling up. I taught him well.

We ended up trying these Cream Cheese Squares from allrecipes.com. Oh. My. Word. Easy and delicious! We will definitely make these again (and again and again).

BBC had a ball in the snow. He played with the neighborhood kids for a while and then entertained himself a while longer. He and DH engaged in a snowball fight.
Here he plots his revenge after Daddy got in “a good shot”.

Everything refroze last night and we got a little more freezing precipitation overnight. It’s not supposed to go above freezing today. I have a feeling BBC will rinse and repeat yesterday’s shenanigans. I’m going to head downstairs, make a big cup of coffee, and spend most of the day curled up here. That is why God gave us snow days, right?

Are you experiencing Snowmageddon 2011? What memories are you creating?

We just got a dusting of snow last night and we’re supposed to get ice pellets this morning. It’s enough to call off school for today, so I’m happy!

I’m glad that you made it home safely. Driving when the roads are bad is scary!

    Enjoy another day inside today!

I’m with ya girl, I’m in NC and currently cannot get out of my driveway due to the ice rink that it has become. Snuggling with my puppy on the couch and homemade soup for me today!

Glad you made it home okay. SCARY! I refuse to drive in it since the time I slid and hit my MIL’s Suburban.

So, did dad ever get pelted with the snowball? I’m dying to know! Enjoy your snow day. Ours is melting today. The suns out.

Those cream cheese squares look soooo goooood! MMM!
